Description
SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) seeks full time, clinical Pharmacy Manager for its Juneau, Alaska medical facility, the Ethel Lund Medical Center.
This position is responsible for the supervisory and managerial responsibilities related to the day to day operation of pharmacy services provided at the Ethel Lund Medical Clinic (ELMC). The primary purpose of pharmacy services is to assure efficacious, safe, and cost-effective drug therapy and appropriate outcomes in the use of drugs and medicines; to procure, store, prepare and distribute medications according to Federal and Alaska State laws; to provide patient and staff drug information, counseling and education; to evaluate and maintain an appropriate drug inventory and to participate in quality improvement activities. The Pharmacy Manager ensures that the pharmacy department provides optimal services; meets all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements; and complies with all applicable organization policies, procedures, codes, and standards.
SEARHC in Juneau, Alaska is an easy 2 ½ hour flight away from Seattle, WA and is the primary healthcare system throughout the communities in the scenic Inner Passage of Alaska. SEARHC staff enjoy the region’s temperature sweet spot between 20 degrees in winter and 70 degrees in summer. This not-for-profit organization has two hospitals and multiple clinic centers. Basic Responsibilities:
Financials: Labor and Non-labor = approx. $1.6 million; Record Retention Responsibility required by State Board of Pharmacy, the Federal Controlled Substance Act, and the Drug Enforcement Agency; Direct Patient Care (50%), verify all prescriptions (for therapy, legality, completeness, contraindications, interactions, allergies, adverse drug reactions, lab value abnormalities and follow-up) and resolve concerns or questions; Recruit and supervise professional and support staff within the pharmacy (30%); Evaluate overall performance of the department and plan improvements in pharmacy services (10%); Controls utilization of department resources (5%); other duties (5%).
Qualifications (Minimum):
-Pharm.D. and licensure as a registered pharmacist. Candidates licensed prior to 2003 with a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree will be considered (reviewed in addition to work experience). No substitution for the degree.
-Candidate with Pharm.D. degree, must also have 4 years experience of which one year must have been in a supervisory role within a pharmacy.
-Candidate with Bachelor of Pharmacy degree must also have 6 years of experience, one of which must have been in a supervisory role within a pharmacy.
-Unrestricted active Alaska license as a registered pharmacist obtained within 12 months of hire or sooner.
-Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR and AED).
-ACLS certification preferred.
-PALS certification preferred.
