This position will serve as Data Analyst under the direction of the Department of Pharmacy & Therapeutics at the University of Pittsburgh. The selected candidate will work with researchers in the department to manage large health care datasets (primarily FAERS and Optum), create analytic data files by using programming techniques to extract and aggregate raw data, conduct statistical analyses, and document programming and results. Additionally, the data analyst will be expected to lead the management of research projects, by participating in the writing of research reports, manuscripts, and grant proposals. Along with that, responsibilities will also include project-specific tasks including IRB and grant report submission, supporting Data Use Agreement applications, tracking of data assets, and helping to ensure compliance with institutional and federal regulations for human subjects’ research. Finally, the Data Analyst will also help oversee students’ and other trainees programming and analyses for student/trainee research projects.

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Expertise in data management and statistical analyses, specifically with SAS (preferred), R, and/or STATA

  • Query data in SQL, preferably SQL Server experience, and connect to SQL Server with their preferred stats software to extract analytic files or create views.

  • Experience with large healthcare databases such as claims data, electronic health record data, and combined.

  • Understand relational database concepts, query optimization techniques, table optimization, and indexing.

  • Experience doing analysis with Terabyte sized databases both on locally- and cloud-hosted servers.

  • Work independently and efficiently with a high level of scientific integrity and attention to detail.

  • Possess excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience setting up and working with modern data science environments, such as

Rstudio and Jupyter notebook

  • Documented experience and understanding of foundational models and vector databases for healthcare analytics
