Description

Under the direction of the Sr. VP of Pharmacy, this individual will be responsible for directing Wellforce Pharmacy’s business and financial management services and programs which encompasses multiple domains and business lines within pharmacy. The scope and oversight includes the organization’s pharmacy budgets, pharmacy supply chain and 340B programs, pharmacy revenue cycle performance, the system P&T Committee and formulary management coordination, pharmacy business/data analytics services and pharmacy project coordination across these and possibly other areas.

This individual will partner in a collaborative manner to support ongoing program growth which is sustainable and compliant with all related State and Federal rules and regulations. The System Director, Pharmacy Business Operations will work closely with the SVP, Pharmacy and will serve as an integral part of the Senior Pharmacy leadership.

Responsibilities:

Management and Oversight

  • Direct financial and operational metrics and systems to manage and optimize the financial performance of the Wellforce system pharmacy.
  • Responsible for the oversight and direction of the Supply Chain within Pharmacy services including oversight of inventory, formulary and other aspects related to medication procurement and data analytics within the respective pharmacy business lines.
  • Responsible for the contract management for pharmacy business lines including yet not limited to contract compliance reviews and other data analytics.
  • Directs project coordination for initiatives that span multiple business lines of pharmacy or are critical to organizational and pharmacy programs within business-based initiatives.
  • Assists the SVP, Pharmacy Services in the planning, monitoring and managing of the department budget. Performs financial analysis to ensure adherence to the departmental budget.
  • Ensures that the pharmacy has a strong revenue cycle process, optimizing billing and charging with updated charge masters and data analytics. Will work closely with appropriate stakeholders to ensure positive performance.
  • Directly supervises key leaders of the Wellforce pharmacy service including yet not limited to directors and/or managers.
  • Responsible for the execution of the Wellforce pharmacy strategic plan and initiatives in response to organizational, regulatory, or market-driven imperatives. Directly accountable to execute the strategy consistently in all practice settings.
  • Develops and executes a pharmacy strategic plan around 340B and non-340B business lines
  • Responsible for all financial targets and performance metrics in all Wellforce pharmacy service operations.
  • Other duties as required.

Education, Training and Development
 

  • Collaborates with senior leadership at all Wellforce entities to develop operating plans and to ensure that the pharmacy strategy, initiatives, and monitoring systems and tools are aligned with the entity’s operating plan.
  • Has the responsibility to lead and support managers in developing and improving operations to create optimal performance levels.
  • Leads/Participates in recruitment and hiring of pharmacy personnel.
  • Establishes individual performance goals and objectives, and completes reviews, at least annually, on assigned pharmacy leaders.
  • Participates/coordinates orientation and training of relevant pharmacy leadership team members.
  • Provides human resource management of direct reporting positions
  • Participate in educational programs, as an attendee or lecturer, to bring knowledge to improve cost-effectiveness and quality of care and service.
     

Policy and Procedure Development and Maintenance
 

  • Initiate, develop, implement and maintain policy and procedures in other areas as assigned.

Strategic Planning and Business Growth & Development
 

  • Provides leadership to seek out, promote and facilitate the rapid adoption and development of best practices and innovations in service, work methods, technology, and operational systems, which improve pharmacy service, quality, and productivity while reducing cost and improving margin.
  • Ability to establish and successfully launch new pharmacy services lines.
  • Identify new business opportunities, evaluate, and operationalize as determined.
  • Communicate the status of projects, operations, staff concerns, and problems to the Pharmacy Sr. VP and other executive stakeholders on an ongoing basis as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with all other pharmacy leaders and key medical, nursing and administrative leaders throughout the Wellforce system to ensure strategies, goals and objectives are aligned.
  • Develop annual and multi-year capital and operating budgets.
  • Monitors budgets for compliance direct investigation to variances.
     

Compliance and Accreditation

  • Develops supply chain/formulary management and drug use initiatives to assure the appropriate use of pharmaceuticals and rebate requirements.   
  • Responsible for compliance with any/all regulatory and accreditation agencies.

Qualifications: 

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university with a BS in Pharmacy or a PharmD degree.
  • The ideal candidate has a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and has three years of related practice experience. 
  • Master’s Degree in Healthcare of Business Administration is preferred.
  • Unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or eligibility.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience directly managing people including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work; experience in leading team efforts within highly matrixed organizations or administrative pharmacy residency with similar experiences.
  • Experience managing a P&L including budget development.
  • Experience in diagnosing, isolating, and resolving complex issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems.
  • Experience providing customer service to internal and external customers, including meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of patient satisfaction.
  • Basic level skill in Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
